What is Asthma?
Asthma is a common lung condition that causes occasional breathing difficulties.
It affects people of all ages and often starts in childhood, although it can also develop for the first time in adults.
There’s currently no cure, but there are simple treatments that can help keep the symptoms under control so it doesn’t have a big impact on your life.
Symptoms
The main symptoms of asthma are:
● Wheezing (a whistling sound when breathing) ● Breathlessness ● A tight chest, which may feel like a band is tightening around it ● Coughing
The symptoms can sometimes get temporarily worse. This is known as an asthma attack.
Several conditions can cause similar symptoms, so it’s important to get a proper diagnosis and correct treatment.
Your GP will usually be able to diagnose asthma by asking about symptoms and carrying out some simple tests.
Treatments
The main types are:
● Reliever inhalers – used when needed to quickly relieve asthma symptoms (salbutamol) ● Preventer inhalers (steroid) – used every day to prevent asthma symptoms occurring ● Some people also need to take tablets.
Causes and triggers
Asthma is caused by swelling (inflammation) of the breathing tubes that carry air in and out of the lungs. This makes the tubes highly sensitive, so they temporarily narrow.
It may occur randomly or after exposure to a trigger. Common asthma triggers include:
● Allergies – to house dust mites, animal fur or pollen, for example ● Smoke, pollution and cold air ● Exercise ● Infections like colds or flu ● Identifying and avoiding your asthma triggers can help you keep your symptoms under control
Side Effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. The following side effects may happen with this medicine:
Allergic Reactions (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people)
If you have an allergic reaction, stop taking Ventolin Evohaler and see a doctor straight away.
Talk to your doctor as soon as possible if you feel your heart is beating faster or stronger than usual (palpitations). This is usually harmless, and usually stops after you have used the medicine for a while. You may feel your heartbeat is uneven or it gives an extra beat, these may affect up to 1 in 10 people.
Tell your doctor if you have any of the following side effects which may also happen with this medicine:
Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people)
● Feeling shaky ● Headache
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people)
● Mouth and throat irritation ● Muscle cramps
Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people)
● A low level of potassium in your blood ● Increased blood flow to your extremities (peripheral dilatation). ● Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people) ● Changes in sleep patterns and behaviour, such as restlessness and excitability

This asthma inhaler contains 100mcg of salbutamol as the active ingredient. It is used for the relief of shortness of breath and asthma symptoms caused by bronchial asthma. The active ingredient is a beta-agonist called albuterol which works in exactly the same way as an inhaler but acts quickly and is fast acting and works within 30 minutes. The side effects of this inhaler may include headache, fatigue, muscle aches, nausea and vomiting, and skin reactions (ulzervdowns). These are usually reversible and will improve within a few days.
Beta-Blockers.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist before use if you are not sure. Do not use if you are allergic to any of the following: salbutamol, beta-adrenergic blocking nutrients, sulfonamides, iron, aluminum, calcium, bismuth, cimetidine, dapsone, pamoate, rosiglitazone, tiotropium, terbutaline, zinc, mannitol, iron, and zinc oxide. Avoid contact with eyes. Do not use on mucous membranes, as there may be a risk of contact with eyes. Do not prepare or handle with food or water unless ready for use. Do not handle tablets, capsules, or creams containing salbutamol. Use this medicine with care and under a doctor's guidance. Do not chew or crush the tablets. Store below 30°C. To avoid the development of stomach abnormalities, allow the medicine to remain out of the sight and reach of children. This medicine should be stored at room temperature away from direct sunlight and heat. Store in the original package in order to protect from moisture. Before using this medicine, let your doctor know if you have any pre-existing conditions or are pregnant or breastfeeding. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children.
Possible side effects may include: blurred vision, changes in taste, eye irritation, drowsiness, dry mouth, nausea and vomiting, headache, dizziness, constipation, stomach pain, and rashes. If any of these effects become serious, consult your doctor immediately. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following: difficulty in speaking, feeling dizzy, feeling or experiencing any side effects, feeling or experiencing any symptoms of skin reaction, swelling, redness, blistering, peeling skin, skin rash, skin rash with blistering and blistering reactions, skin rash with skin blistering or blistering reaction, skin rash with skin rubbing against the skin. Store at room temperature between 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F), excursions permitted between 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F). Keep out of reach of children.

The Singapore government has announced a ban on prescription medicines for children aged 12 years and older in the country. The ban is the result of a government initiative that aims to increase awareness about asthma and other respiratory conditions, and to increase access to the medicines. The Singapore Health Ministry announced this week that it would issue a public advisory on the subject to the public and to the state government.
The Singapore Medicines Administration (SMA) has said that the ban would not only limit the availability of medicines but also reduce the number of medicines that people could obtain, with a warning that it would also increase the number of people who could access the medicines.
The Singapore Health Ministry is also working on the development of a national alert on the use of asthma drugs to increase awareness and prevent the onset of asthma and other respiratory conditions.
The Singapore Health Ministry’s Health Ministry will also be in a position to act on any other public health issues. The government will also be working on an update to the Singapore Health Ministry on the need for more comprehensive and comprehensive education and action to help people with asthma and other respiratory conditions. It is hoped that this will lead to more people having access to the medicines in Singapore.
